10 creative ideas for stag and hen parties

10 creative ideas for stag and hen parties

When your best mate is getting married and it falls to you to organise the stag or hen party, it can be hard to know where to start. Here are 10 creative ideas – five for her and five for him – along with a practical checklist to help you plan.

Hen party ideas

Before you start planning, think about the size of the group, the budget and what the bride-to-be actually enjoys.

Spa day with bubbles and brunch

A classic that never fails: treat the bride to a day of pure relaxation before the big celebration. Take the whole group for a spa day followed by a delicious brunch. Book massages and facials, but steer clear of anything too intense so the bride can simply unwind and enjoy herself. After the spa, round things off with a mimosa brunch or an elegant afternoon tea. To make the day extra personal, put together goodie bags with bathrobes, face masks and scented candles. Perfect for smaller groups who want a calmer, more luxurious celebration.

Themed party

A themed party is a brilliant way to celebrate, whether at home, in a hired venue or at an Airbnb. It is especially good for creative groups who want a personal celebration with a great atmosphere! Hosting at home can also be budget-friendly and intimate.

Go all out with decorations, good food and costumes. A few fun themes to try:

  • 80s party
  • Pyjama party with karaoke
  • Tropical garden party

Bonus tip: Take the bride out for an extra activity before heading to the themed party to spice up the day even more!

Wine tasting

Perfect for a bride who appreciates a good glass of wine! Wine tasting is an elegant and educational activity that pairs nicely with a weekend away. How about staying overnight at a vineyard or hotel? On a tighter budget, a local wine tasting works just as well.

A lovely plan for the day might be a private tasting with a sommelier, followed by tapas or a cheese and wine pairing. If the budget allows, turn it into a weekend trip with an overnight stay. Add a bride quiz or wine bingo in the evening! An ideal celebration for grown-up groups of friends who want to combine good company with a memorable experience.

Activity day

This one is perfect for groups who love being sociable and getting stuck in! Kick off the day with an exciting challenge such as an escape room, paintball or laser tag. It sets the tone and gets everyone working together and laughing from the very start.

Afterwards, head to a nice restaurant for good food and perhaps a bit of a party atmosphere. Share old stories and memories that bring out both laughter and tears. A day like this works especially well for mixed groups of friends, offering a great mix of activity, cosiness and nostalgia.

Photoshoot and a night out with a VIP package

Want a glamorous celebration for a bride who loves Instagram and a more luxurious vibe? Then this hen party is spot on! Start the day with a professional photoshoot – ideally with a stylist, matching outfits and a glass of champagne in hand. You will come away with memories and photos for the 'gram that you will be laughing about for years!

After the shoot, carry on in a limousine or party bus and hit the town, where you have booked a VIP table at a nightclub or cocktail bar. Why not combine it with a scavenger hunt around the city or a themed party for extra fun?

This is the hen party package for party-loving groups who want to go all in and celebrate the bride in style.

Stag party ideas

It is just as important that the stag party reflects the groom's personality, sense of humour and interests. Some want a big night out from start to finish, while others prefer activities, competitions and good food. Here are five fun and original ideas:

Pub crawl with challenges and costumes

A pub crawl is a classic, but why not add a few challenges? Dress the groom up in a silly costume and give him one challenge per bar: ask a stranger for their number, get a bartender to sing, collect ten high fives and so on. Split into teams for some extra competition. A perfect night for sociable groups with a good sense of humour!

Beer tasting and seriously good food

Is the groom a fan of craft beer and good food? Then this is a fantastic way to celebrate! Book a beer tasting at a local brewery and let the group taste their way through every style, from IPA to stout! Many breweries offer guided tastings with an introduction to brewing, flavours and history. Afterwards, move on to a really good restaurant for a proper dinner. Add a fun quiz about the groom to get the mood going and make the evening extra personal.

Adrenaline day with action and speed

For the groom who loves a bit of excitement and pace, this is a guaranteed winner! Start the day with go-karting, paintball or laser tag (or combine several for a full-on adrenaline day). Many venues offer complete packages with food and drink included, and there are both indoor and outdoor options.

Finish off with a good meal at a restaurant or a barbecue with the lads. Go for this one if your mates love speed and thrills – it is perfect for active groups of friends who enjoy competition and action.

Wilderness trip with an overnight stay and campfire

Got a mate who loves the outdoors and is always heading off into the woods? Then this is exactly the right activity! Rent a cabin, or pack your rucksacks and head out on a survival trip with tents, a campfire and activities such as axe throwing, wood carving or fishing. Make it extra fun for the groom with a few games, team competitions or similar. Bring something good to drink and cook a proper feast. For a special touch, add a bit of luxury such as a bottle of cognac or a few cigars for the evening. A real celebration for an adventurous groom who values friendship and nature!

Gaming and competition night

If the groom loves gaming, or simply prefers a relaxed evening with friends, how about a gaming night? Set it up at home or in a hired venue with consoles, PCs or board games. You can run your own tournaments in his favourite games, such as FIFA, Mario Kart or CS:GO. Make sure there are plenty of snacks, pizza and drinks. If you are holding tournaments, it can be great fun to go the whole hog with team T-shirts and caps.

If the groom is not into video games, you could host a poker night instead, or pick his favourite board game! Whatever you choose, a groom who enjoys a quieter evening with his nearest and dearest is sure to love it!

Stag and hen parties at Megazone

If you live in or around Oslo, we can help you with your stag or hen party in Oslo! There are, however, a few things worth keeping in mind when organising an event like this.

Not sure where to start? Here is a simple plan:

1. Contact everyone early and find a suitable date

It is important to work out who is coming. Check with close friends and family of the bride or groom. It is also important to pin down a few possible dates as early as possible. Then agree together on the date that suits everyone best. There is no reason to hold the party right before the wedding – the bride and groom will have more than enough to sort out in the final days. A few weeks before is ideal.

2. Create a secret Facebook group

Inviting everyone into a secret Facebook group can be a really smart move. Here you can decide together which activities to do, where to eat and what to get up to as midnight approaches. "Everyone" is on Facebook, and it is an easy place to share suggestions and prices. You also get a good overview of who is coming. Perhaps not everyone knows each other already? Then it is a chance to get to know each other a little online before you meet. The best man or maid of honour takes charge and acts as the group's "boss". If any disagreements arise, they have the final say.

3. Plan the activities

This is probably the most time-consuming part. Someone needs to take responsibility for booking the whole group, getting prices, passing on information and so on. Laser tag, Operation Mindfall, paintball and street curling at Fjellstua have become a natural first choice for many. Excitement, adrenaline and fun – the key ingredients of a successful stag or hen party!

With us, you can easily choose the package that suits your group best. You can read more about our stag and hen party activities here. Many groups also want to do several activities – take a look at www.eventguiden.no for a good overview of activity centres in and around Oslo.

4. Dinner, partying and fun

Once the daytime activities are done, it is time for food and a drink or two. Many head out into Oslo for a nice dinner. Speaking from experience, having been to several stag and hen parties myself, the best ones have actually been those where the group went back to someone's home and cooked together. Turn the cooking into an activity – it saves money and it is great fun! Enjoy a drink while you are in the kitchen, and challenge yourselves to a two- or three-course meal.

After dinner it is nice to stay together. If you head out on the town, the group is bound to split up. Stay in and play some fun games – a Kahoot quiz has always been a winner at our parties!

A wide range of activities designed for stag and hen parties

At Megazone you will find a great selection of exciting and fun activities – just the thing if you are organising a stag or hen party for a good friend!

We recommend Operation Mindfall, a mix of escape room and treasure hunt that takes place in the streets of central Oslo. This unique concept uses both geolocation and AR technology, and you take equipment with you out into the streets, where you work together on a range of challenges and activities right in the heart of the city. It is perfect for stag and hen parties: you have fun, learn something new and have to cooperate to win. There is even a short drinks break built into the game.

Looking for activities that get the adrenaline pumping?

Plenty of people love an adrenaline rush, and for those stag and hen parties we offer activities such as paintball – both indoor and outdoor – and laser tag. You can also combine indoor paintball with, for example, street curling. We put the programme together, so all you need to do is focus on having fun. The bar is of course open throughout, with drinks served in our bar at Fjellstua and bottle service upstairs on our second floor.

Have a fantastic celebration and look after each other all evening!
