What is an outdoor escape game?
Escape rooms have really taken off in Oslo over the past few years. We've tried every single one in the city ourselves and think they're brilliant fun. So at Megazone we set out to find something similar – and possibly even better!
We travelled to event trade fairs in the USA, Amsterdam and Paris. In Paris we were introduced to a German company called Cluetivity. We got to play a short test version of Operation Mindfall and were instantly convinced that this was a concept we simply had to bring back to Oslo. We secured the licence for Oslo and the surrounding area and got to work developing and translating the entire game, with our own staff acting as guinea pigs. After a bit of fine-tuning, Operation Mindfall was suddenly available in Norwegian in Oslo.
Locked in for 60 minutes?
In a traditional escape room you are locked inside a room and have to solve lots of small puzzles to get out before the clock runs down. In our escape game, you solve challenges all around central Oslo instead.
It couldn't be simpler: book a slot on our website, turn up at Megazone, collect all the equipment you need – and start your mission!
The mission lasts 2 hours, during which you'll tackle a wide range of different challenges. We use GPS and AR technology, so things that aren't really there "suddenly" become visible. You'll need to search your surroundings, but also solve puzzles directly on the iPad. Operation Mindfall is a fairly tough game – and we wouldn't have it any other way. A good challenge matters!
Who are escape games for?
We started by launching Operation Mindfall, a game suitable for everyone aged 15 and over. There are no doubt some bright younger sparks who could crack plenty of the puzzles too, but we chose to set a recommended minimum age of 15. Hands down the most exciting team building in Oslo! Lots of groups of friends, schools, clubs, sports teams and stag & hen parties have also had a great time with the game. In summer 2020 we also launched Magic Portal. It uses the same technology, but the game itself is a little easier to get to grips with. It's better suited to younger players together with one or two adults, and it takes place in Oslo's parks, so you're less exposed to heavy traffic.
