Christmas party in Oslo with activities
In short: a Christmas party with an activity brings more laughter and fewer awkward silences than a standard dinner. A popular option in Oslo is to hire a private venue, enjoy Christmas tapas and finish with a street curling tournament with a prize – perhaps with a round of laser tag before you eat. The most important tip is to book early: Wednesdays to Fridays in November and December are often taken as early as September.
In Norway the company Christmas party is called julebord, and it's one of the biggest social events of the working year.
Why choose a Christmas party with an activity?
A traditional Christmas do tends to follow the same recipe: dinner, speeches and the bar. It works, but it gives people little reason to mingle. An activity gives colleagues from different departments something to do together – and something to talk about for the rest of the night. It makes things easier for those who aren't keen on small talk, and it gives the evening a natural structure.
The key is to choose something everyone can join in, whatever their age, fitness or outfit. Nobody wants to break a sweat in their party clothes.
Street curling – the ideal Christmas party activity
Street curling is "mini curling" on synthetic ice. The rules are the same as proper curling, but it isn't cold, and you need neither special shoes nor practice. It's a "no-sweat" activity where everyone can contribute, and the cheering soon builds as the last stones are played.
Fjellstua – a log cabin built indoors at Megazone by Youngstorget – has four street curling lanes. With exclusive hire we're happy to run a street curling tournament with a prize for the winning team. The venue is fully decorated for Christmas from 1 November, with a tree, fairy lights and a crackling fireplace.
Food: Christmas tapas, or Christmas dinner first?
There are two common approaches:
- Christmas tapas at the venue. Fjellstua serves Christmas tapas for up to 50 people at NOK 730 per person including VAT. The menu includes Norwegian festive favourites such as pork belly (ribbe) with prunes, medister patties, lefse with pinnekjøtt and cured salmon. See the full food and drink menu.
- Christmas dinner at a restaurant first. Megazone works with Stortorvets Gjæstgiveri, a five-minute walk away. We arrange the booking, you dine there, and then the party continues at Fjellstua.
Bear in mind that Fjellstua isn't a restaurant: food is served with wooden cutlery and plates, and there is seating for 40–50. For most activity-based Christmas parties that's just right – the atmosphere is what counts.
Laser tag before dinner?
If you want a bit more pace before the meal, start the evening with laser tag on the floor above. You split into teams and play against each other in mazes filled with smoke, music and light effects – and laser tag suits absolutely everyone. For the most competitive there's also indoor paintball, though it can sting, so it isn't for everyone. Both can be combined with a Christmas party at Fjellstua.
Exclusive hire: the whole venue to yourselves
With exclusive hire of Fjellstua you get the whole cabin – bar, fireside corner, sofas and four curling lanes – with no other guests. There's room for up to 70 people (50 with food served). Snacks and activities are included in the hire, and alongside curling you can enjoy a pub and music quiz, karaoke, beer pong, golf pong and board games.
Christmas party prices are NOK 5,000 per hour including VAT, or NOK 25,000 for a full evening. Between 10 November and 23 December, Fjellstua can only be hired exclusively for a full evening. At the bar you decide: an open bar, drinks tokens or everyone pays for themselves. Read more about Christmas parties at Fjellstua and exclusive hire.
When should we book our Christmas party?
Put simply: as early as you can. In our experience, Wednesday to Friday in November and December are often booked by early September, and popular dates have long waiting lists – in 2025, 35 companies were on the waiting list. If you're flexible, consider a Monday or Tuesday, or hold your party in January instead. Fjellstua stays decorated from 1 November until well into January.
The cancellation deadline for Christmas parties in November and December is 14 days.
